Pondering Pregnancy

s

Megan Chadwick,
doula & birth educator

Congratulations to you,
wherever you are in your pregnancy journey!

I am a birth and postpartum doula, a childbirth educator, a baby-holding-enthusiast, and a professional lullaby-serenader. I spent more than a decade supporting folks in myriad ways as a nanny, camp counselor, and after-school teacher.

While my path to birth work was in no way linear, arriving at the role of doula felt like stepping through a familiar door. Working with children taught me about adaptability, patience, empathy, every form of resilience, and the profound, unparalleled power of love. These are the qualities that define our humanity, and they are at the center of birth.
Learning about the complex and awe-inspiring mechanisms of physiological birth shifted everything I thought I knew about how we are born.

Birth is not a condition to be pathologized, nor is it a singular, medical event. In pregnancy, how you are treated, uplifted, listened to, trusted, and revered matters. Whether you feel informed of all of your options, autonomous in your decision making, and supported by your birth team matters. Postpartum begins in your labor room, and your birth experience directly affects your experience as a parent

I am proud to be part of the Los Angeles birth community (my hometown!) as I continue forward as a student, teacher, facilitator, confidante, and advocate for those on their extraordinary journey to parenthood and beyond.

Services

Consultation

Choosing a doula is like dating. Do we connect? Do we have chemistry? Do you like the way my voice sounds, and can you imagine feeling safe with me at your most vulnerable moments?

Pre-Natal Visits

These at-home visits allow us to get to know each other better, give you the opportunity to share about your pregnancy, unpack concerns and questions you may have that I can support you in, supplement your own childbirth research, and rehearse comfort measures and techniques. Between visits, I am available by email and phone to provide resources you may want, to be a sounding board before and after pre-natal care appointments, and generally support you as things come up.

Labor &
Birth Support

I am on call for you 24/7, from 38-42 weeks of gestation.

I meet you at home or your birthing location at the time that you choose, during labor.

I am physically present for your birth, and stay for the first couple of hours as you transition to postpartum.

Postpartum Visit

Within a week of your birth, I visit you and your family at home for a few hours to provide you with whatever kind of support you need most. We usually sit with a hot beverage, oogle your babe, recount your birth experience, and decide that I would be most helpful unloading your dishwasher, cooking a meal, or holding your kiddo while you shower.

Testimonials

Elisabeth, Braden’s Mom

“I really appreciated how Megan taught my husband how to best support me through contractions without medication- through her guidance he learned how to give me the support that I needed when the contractions seemed beyond my abilities. Thank goodness Megan showed him how to do that hip squeeze! Megan supported me by walking through the halls when my labor stalled, helping me stay positive and learn how to move through the contractions.

Megan provided us with so much information prior to the big event that eased my mind; I had no idea what to expect and I am the type to fall down the rabbit hole in searching for information online. Megan helped me face into those fears with knowledge from the doula community, scientific research, and personal experience. I can't express how thankful I am to have had her with me through my first pregnancy.”

Bonnie, Westley’s Mom

“Megan was so helpful by being a calm presence in the birth room. She was able to help my husband and I take our minds off the waiting, and waiting, and waiting (induction!) She was also SO great with helping me get through my contractions and making decisions. She was so amazing, I couldn’t have asked for better support. The hospital staff kept telling me over and over how great she was and how lucky I was to have her!”

Katrina, Dominic’s Mom

“Megan is not only a beautiful soul and just the most fun, upbeat, knowledgable, charasmatic, inviting, hilarious, sweet and giving person, she somehow became even more than a birth Doula to us. She became a friend and was so important not only at the birth but leading up to the birth at our prenatal visits. She set such a calm, soothing, open tone that it helped in ways I didn't even realize I could need. I'm so grateful that Megan was with us leading up to the birth as she gave us wonderful, very useful birth education and encouragement. We planned home birth for our first team green baby; this was a whole new world in so many ways for all of us and I can't imagine it without Megan's generous spirit guiding us to a calm and love filled space. Megan, thank you dear for all that you are and all that you did to be with us for that magical moment! I know you're out helping other families now to bring their angels into the world! You're the best! Baby Dominic will be told over and over how you were a part of his journey earth-side!”

Jenny, Reese’s Mom

“There are two people I could not have gotten through the birth of my beautiful son without.

One, thankfully, is my husband. The other is our loving, committed, compassionate, motivational, and fearless, Doula, Megan. The care and attention she provided both me and my husband with is unparalleled. From day one, the information and support she gave were exactly what I needed to stay calm, strong, and unafraid. A first time mom, I had many questions, and many doubts about my abilities both physically and in general as a mother. She took her time, was patient with me, and gave me and my husband an arsenal of knowledge and tools to help with childbirth, parenthood, and everything in between. In the delivery room, I made it clear that I wanted the temperature to remain calm, positive, and if at all possible, fun. Megan rose to the occasion and made sure it was just that. She even made fun motivational signs and sang silly songs to help me deal with the inevitable decisions and pain that come with childbirth. Things didn't go 100% according to plan, but I can honestly say that I wouldn't have changed a thing.

I was confident in my body to do what it needed to do, and a lot of that was because of Megan. We love her and thank her for the amazing care that she provided to us. All 3 of us.“

Paymaneh, Liam’s Mom

“Megan was not the first doula I interviewed in preparation for my birth but she was definitely the last. I immediately felt connected to her during our first meeting and knew that I felt comfortable enough for her to be part of a very intimate chapter of my life. I ended up with an emergency C-section at 36 weeks pregnant. It was an extremely overwhelming experience. What was supposed to be a routine OB-GYN appointment, ended in my being admitted for days and, ultimately, having emergency surgery. Megan was with me every, single step of the way. She explained every procedure and answered all of my questions when I was feeling overloaded with information from the doctors. She kept my environment calm and zen, and even brought me coloring books and wrote inspirational notes on the wall to keep me motivated. She also visited us at home a few times to check on how we are doing, answer questions and provided me with tools on how to best take care of myself emotionally and physically.

Megan's calm and uplifting energy allowed me to find joy and peace in a hectic and shocking experience.“

Bianca and Drew, Ethan’s Parents

“We couldn’t have been more blessed to have Megan as our doula. We were a bit later in our pregnancy before we decided we NEEDED a doula as part of our support team, especially as we were trying to have an unmedicated natural birth with our first born son. Luckily, Megan was sitting in our birth class, so we naturally were inclined to have her be our doula-Wonder-Woman, since we felt she would be the best person to go through this new and scary experience with. Megan was there before our son was born during prenatal visits, she came over to our place when laboring at home became more intense, suggesting a variety of coping and comfort strategies and making sure the whole family stayed hydrated and fed during this time. She communicated with our midwives before heading with us to the birth center, provided the emotional and physical support we could have only dreamed of during active labor at the center, and transferred with us to the hospital when baby needed some extra help getting out. She was our birth plan advocate, my fiancée’s go to for advice and staying calm during a hard and stressful labor, all whilst cheering me on as I tried to push out our baby boy. Not only was Megan an integral part before our son was born but she’s practically family now that we’re postpartum. We love her!“

Talya, Ilan’s Mom

“Megan was a key member of my son's birth in January 2019. I knew I wanted a doula to help support my husband and me as this was our first child and I wanted both of us to feel comfortable and supported throughout the process. Megan met with us prior to labor to talk through what we wanted the experience to be–as individuals and as a couple. She coached me in what to realistically expect and pointed me towards tools I could use to feel most comfortable and at ease, psychologically and physically.

Our ideal plans did not come to fruition. I was induced and experienced a lot of medical intervention that was very foreign to my husband and me; we were very scared. Megan as our pillar and guiding light throughout all the confusion, emotion, and unknown. In total my labor and delivery took 4 days and Megan would continuously come to the hospital at the drop of a hat if any new procedures or stages were occurring. She answered medical questions for us and was extremely knowledgeable about the many labor/delivery procedures, always filling in blanks where nurses and doctors failed to, helping us make choices and never making us feel judged whichever way we chose.

I also found Megan particularly skilled in knowing when to intervene and provide support to me, when to coach my husband in supporting me, and when to give us privacy. I loved and deeply appreciated having Megan by my side during this life changing experience. I hope one day she can be there for our second.“

Elana, Matan’s Mom

“Megan was such a grounding force for me during labor. Although we didn't have a chance to talk about my hopes and dreams for my birth before I went into labor, Megan rolled with the punches and followed my lead. She was incredibly supportive of my fears/anxiety around pain, and consistently reminded me to just take things one breath and one contraction at a time which made it all feel more doable. She stayed by our side when I needed to transfer to the OR for a C-section and waited in the hospital lobby for hours after my son was born incredibly sick to ensure that me and my husband had everything we needed. I would highly recommend this sweet, sweet soul to anyone looking for doula support.“
